How to uninstall a Windows XP from command prompt.
One option included in Windows XP is the ability to uninstall Windows XP if you performed an upgrade from a previous version of Windows, such as, Windows 98, 98SE, or [ gasp ] god for bid, Windows Me and wish to return to the previous version of Windows.
I’m certain most of you are farmiliar with the standard method of uninstalling Windows XP by entering into Windows normally and use the Add/Remove Programs tool located in Control Panel. But what happends when yopu are unable to re-enter into Windows after you upgraded from an earlier version of Windows to Windows XP. Another option then you may not have thought of is to load Windows XP in Safe Mode with command prompt and then uninstall the upgrade from command line.
It is important to understand that this will only work on version of that were installed originally as an upgrade and if a successful image of the previous operating system was created and saved during the Windows XP upgrade installation.
1. Start the computer and begin tapping the F8 key on the keyboard.2. From the Advanced Startup Menu select the third option “Safe Mode with Command Prompt.” And press enter.
3. Please select the operating system and simply press enter.
You will see series of multidisk prompts begin to load don’t be alarmed this is normal.
4. At the welcome screen select the administrative account and press enter
5. Then at the command prompt, type “cd\ “ and then press enter.
6. From the C:\> type “cd\windows\system32\osuninst.exe” and then press enter.
On screen instructions will guide you through the uninstall process to revert to the previous version of Windows.
